What are QR Codes

QR codes, or quick response codes, are a type of barcode that can be scanned using a smartphone or QR code reader. Generally people scan QR codes using the camera on their phone and can be quickly taken to your content of choice such as website, website offer or social media page. They can also be used to take payments, upload menus directly to phones, add business card details and lots more.

QR Code usage has exploded in the last  years and its set to keep increasing with over 1 billion scans a year expected in the US alone by the year 2025.

Add QR Codes to your marketing material

QR Codes should be added to all your marketing material such as posters, brochures, leaflets and business cards. Include them in your ecommerce packages so customers can easily reorder, subscribe to newsletters or get access to discount codes.

I can manage and track your codes for a monthly fee. This includes editing, tracking and monthly reports on your QR codes.  Alternately I can help you setup your own account but you would then need to generate and  send me your QR codes. You can also give me access to the account and I can generate the codes for you

You don’t need an account for free QR codes but they can’t be tracked or edited.

Dynamic QR Codes

Dynamic QR codes can be tracked and edited. Every time a code is scanned it is tracked by the software that created your code. You can also edit the codes to quickly change the QR codes objective. For example you might decide to change the URL from your website to your instagram page.

With dynamic codes you will be able keep track of how many people scan your QR Codes, from where and on what date.

Unlike static codes dynamic codes are not free. They come with a monthly subscription. Prices vary from company to company but you can expect to pay between €10-€35 a month and upwards depending on how many codes you use.

Once your subscription is ended generally you will lose access to your codes so this is something you should keep in mind before you invest in a paid subscription

Static QR Codes

Static QR Codes are codes that are generally free to generate but they can’t be tracked and they can’t be edited once they have been created. Therefore if you generate a QR code and add it to your business card you can’t monitor or track its usage. If you hand out 200 business cards with a static QR code you’ll have no way of known how many people have interacted with and scanned the code.

Likewise the code can’t be edited. For example if you changed your phone number there would be no way to edit the code. You would have to reprint new cards with a newly generated QR code

The same could be said with all other merchandise. If you have different static QR Codes on separate merchandise material such as posters, leaflets,  and business cards you can’t track the codes to determine what marketing material is working and what is not.  Also if you needed to change the QR code or change the promotion you would need to generate a new code and reprint the marketing material with new codes.
